NGC 1893: A Stellar Nursery
The nebulae in this image surround a sparse young star cluster, barely a
million years old, known as NGC 1893. It lies in the constellation of
Auriga, about 10,000 light years from us. The youth of the cluster is
easy to see, with so many bright blue stars within (see the description
of the two star clusters from earlier this year).
The nebulosity surrounding this cluster is particularly interesting, as
it is evidently left over from the material that formed these stars.
Some regions are so dense that new stars may still be forming within; in
particular, note the two knots of nebulosity in the upper left - new stars
appear to be emerging fromm their cocoons here.
